Bridal Shower Charity Gifts

A donation to her favorite charity is a thoughtful gift.

While some brides go a little overboard when registering for wedding gifts, others may simply request a donation to a charity instead. To find out which charity to donate to, see if the bride-to-be has a particular affiliation to a certain cause, such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and make a donation.

  1. How to Donate

    • If you are not sure which charity to make a donation to, ask around to see if the bride supports a particular non-profit organization or charity. You may find that she already does. If not, see if friends or family of the bride-to-be experienced any kind of illness, financial setback or other kind of difficult period of time. For example, if the bride's mother suffers from breast cancer, consider donating to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Other breast cancer charities and foundations include the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, National Breast Cancer Coalition, and BreastCancer.org. Or, consider signing up for a breast cancer awareness walk event. Either way, your money will go to support the charity. After you make the donation, consider purchasing a bridal shower greeting card and explain the donation to her in a heart-felt message.

    Children in Need

    • Perhaps a relative of the bride suffers from a debilitating disease. Family members are often faced with an exuberant amount of bills. They may have to turn to a children's charity in their time of need. Consider donating to such charities. Examples include the March of Dimes, Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and Ronald McDonald's House Charities. Ronald McDonald's House Charities, for example, provide a "home away from home" for families whose child is at a hospital seeking medical treatment, hundreds of miles away.

    Serious Illness

    • Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Other autoimmune diseases include Type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. There is a charity that supports each of these serious illnesses. See if any member of the bride's family, friend or colleague is suffering from a serious illness and donate to the charity. Examples include the MS Society, Lupus Foundation of America and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

    Save the Planet

    • If the bride-to-be drives an environmental-friendly car or is a fan of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Facebook, choose to donate to an environmental and/or an animal protection non-profit organization. Examples of environmental non-profit organizations include the Nature Conservancy, Rainforest Action Network, the Conservation Fund and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Examples of animal protection non-profit organizations include the Humane Society of the United States, Wildlife Conservation Society, Humane Farming Association and the Animal Welfare Institute.
