Green work can be anything from planning a campaign with peers to installing energy-efficient products.

As of 2011, college campuses around the country are working to establish environmentally friendly jobs for students. Involving students in these positions allows them to recognize the value of the Earth and how it is treated. Jobs range from campaign work to hands-on jobs, such as planting trees or establishing wind energy.

  1. Energy Creation

    • With the emergence of the green movement, environmentally friendly products and services are expanding to college campuses. The College of the Atlantic in Maine made moves in 2010 to purchase most of its produce from a nearby organic farm. Hired students were sent to the farm to help create wind energy turbines to provide a majority of the farm's power. Look for these types of jobs at your college as solar panels and wind energy become more commonplace.

    Environmental Protection Agency

    • The EPA has branches across the United States that offer jobs and internships. These positions are meant to teach employees the value and mission of the organization, while gaining job experience. Jobs available to EPA college students are largely based on research-related work. Usually students are hired to create a campaign that supports the organization either through a management, legal, public relations or scientific angle. General administrative jobs also are offered to qualifying applicants. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in an accredited college or vocational school.

    Recycling Collection

    • Establish a recycling service at your college if one is not in place. Talk to environmental studies professors to find out who you should approach with this project. If a program already exists, apply to either collect recycling bin contents that are to be recycled, or create a green campaign that reminds students to recycle. Apply for jobs that help keep the campus clean. Job duties can be anything from picking up miscellaneous trash to planting trees and shrubs and maintaining campus land.

    Energy Use Evaluation

    • Energy efficiency internships are available on college campuses to help educate students while providing them with a meaningful position. The University of California, Berkley instituted a paid energy efficiency internship as of 2011. Students spread the word about the importance of energy conservation. They create and promote projects that use less electricity through lights-out methods and by using energy-efficient lights and lightbulbs.
