Sprung from Central Florida's flatness is a movie studio/theme park that challenges Disney World and SeaWorld for Orlando theme park supremacy. Universal Studios Orlando, and the next-door Islands of Adventure, had 9.9 million visitors in 2009, according to the Themed Entertainment Association 2009 Theme Park Attendance Report. If you know when the slow times are at Universal Studios, you can avoid long lines, crowded parking lots and maintain your three-foot personal space.
Slowest Times of Year
The slowest times of the year at Universal Studios Florida is February, September, early November and late January. Late January and February signal the beginning of the winter school semester, and September is when kids head back to school after summer break. Although September is the slowest month at Universal Studios, it also brings hot, humid weather and the chance for hurricanes. Early November produces small crowds and the weather is mild and sunny. January and February can bring cool weather, but it is usually mild and clear.
Slow Times of the Week
Universal Studios tends to be busier on the weekends during the slow and busy seasons. The busy season also sees larger crowds the first three days of the week. The slowest days are traditionally Thursday and Friday when tourists are winding down their vacations and locals are finishing up their work week.
Slow Times of the Day
Waking up with the sun is a great way to beat the crowds, and the summer heat, at Universal Studios Orlando. Not only will you find a prime parking spot, but you'll be able to ride "E.T. Adventure" and "Back to the Future" before the massive crowds arrive. If you are traveling to the park during the summer, the slowest time of the day is right after an afternoon shower. Rains pass through Orlando every afternoon like clockwork during the summertime. Often these are short deluges, which are great at washing away visitors. Grab a bite to eat, wait out the weather, and enjoy Universal Studios with the few that stuck it out. The park only will close in the event of severe weather.
Busiest Times of the Year
The best way to avoid the busiest times of the year at Universal Studios is to know when the busiest times are. In between the bell signaling the beginning and end of summer, Universal Studios is busy. The winter holiday season, from late November till the second week in January, is the second busiest times of year. Late March and April are also busy because of spring break. Holidays, such as the Fourth of July and Memorial Day, see an uptick in attendance.
