List of Incense Scents
Incense comes in hundreds of scents. These include flower, herb, bark, wood and resins. Sometimes essential oils are combined to add to basic ingredients. The oil combinations can create even more scent variations on the final product, whether it's in stick, cone or powder form. Choosing which incense you prefer is always a matter of personal choice and what you might want to use the incense for. Certain spiritual practices might call for frankincense and juniper, while rose or lavender might work for refreshing the air of a home or office. Whatever the case, you will likely find what you are looking for.

Fruit and Floral
-
Apple-cinnamon, cherry, vanilla and fruit and berry-scented incense are commonly the kind of incense used more for air freshening. Many similar ones fall into this category. They are seldom, if ever, used for spiritual and religious practice. Rose and lavender may be used for some kinds of meditation. Greek monastery incense can be found with a rose scent. Other floral scents include lotus, geranium, white ginger, gardenia and jasmine.

Most sage is used ceremonially. Anise, eucalyptus, hyssop, bay laurel, bayberry, lemongrass, mugwort and iris are just a few of the dozens of herbal scents you can find. The leaves, roots and stems may be used, depending on the plant.

Wood

Essential oil from roses can be found in some types of incense. Juniper, cedar, sandalwood and palo santo are a few types of wood used in incense. The rare aloeswood may be found alone or in special formulas. The wood is usually ground or used in small chip form. Sometimes these are combined with scented or essential oils to arrive at different scent combinations. It depends on the manufacturer. Along with resins, the wood powders are often used for sacred purposes.
