OpenOffice was first available to the public in 2000. It is a free, open-source office software package that includes Write, Calc, Impress, Draw and Base. Write is similar to Word and is for documents. Calc is similar to Excel and is for spreadsheets. Impress, used to make presentations, is like PowerPoint. Draw is for image editing. Base is the OpenOffice equivalent to Access. Swapping the columns for rows is also known as transposing. Transposing a table is possible in many spreadsheet programs and may make a table easier to read.

Replace Table with a Transposed Version in OpenOffice Calc

  • To replace the original version of the table, open the OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet you which to modify and select the cells that will be transposed. Then press "Ctrl" + "X" to cut the cells. Click on the cell you want to be the upper-left corner of the transposed table. In the "Edit" menu, choose the "Paste Special" option. In the window that pops up, click the check box next to "Transpose" and the click the "OK" button. Now the transposed table will be in your spreadsheet.

Create a Trasposed Table in OpenOffice Calc From Another Program

  • Cells can be copied in a similar fashion to the steps above from .csv files and .xls or .xlsx files in other programs. To do this, open the file with the table and copy the data by pressing "Ctrl" + "C". Open an OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet and click on the cell you want to be the upper-left corner of the transposed table. Then, in the "Edit" menu, choose the "Paste Special" option. In the window that pops up, click the check box next to "Transpose" and the click the "OK" button.
