One of the best features of a Netflix membership is the ability to access thousands of movies and TV shows through their Watch Instantly feature. Even better, there are several different devices that are compatible with Netflix's streaming video format. If you own one of these devices, you can easily watch Netflix streaming content on your television or even on a portable device.
All three video game systems currently on the market are Netflix-compatible: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. This is especially convenient for gamers who also want to use their consoles for other forms of home entertainment. All PlayStation and Wii users need to do is connect their system to the Internet and download a free application to connect to Netflix. However, Xbox 360 users must have a paid Xbox Live account to watch Netflix video streams.
Blu-ray Players and HDTVs
Many new Blu-ray players already have an application for watching Netflix. All you need to do is connect the player to the Internet, run the application and log into your account to begin enjoying streaming Netflix movies and TV shows. These include high-end Blu-ray players from Panasonic and LG, as well as low-cost devices from Vizio and Insignia. Similarly, many HDTVs on the market also have a Netflix application.
Digital Video Players
There are also several digital video players specifically designed to play video-on-demand websites on a television. Netflix is included on several of these, including the popular Roku Player. Apart from Netflix, many of these players can also stream from Amazon Instant Watch, Vudu and YouTube. Also, TiVo digital video recorders are compatible with Netflix Watch Instantly, though older models may not support the format.
There are also a handful of portable devices compatible with Netflix. For a while, Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch were the only portable devices compatible with Netflix's Watch Instantly. However, Windows Phone 7 smartphone users can now also access Netflix's streaming video library. These devices will require the installation of an application to be compatible, but it's available for free.
