Eagle Scout College Scholarships

Becoming an Eagle Scout requires dedication, character and a commitment to the troop and community. This devotion to service and responsibility is recognized and rewarded by the National Eagle Scout Association, which provides thousands of dollars in scholarships every year. These scholarships are rewarded based on academic achievement and personal merit, and can help Eagle Scouts fund their education at almost any four-year college or university. While these scholarships are available to Eagle Scouts nationwide, other regional and religious-based scholarships are also available to scouts and can be explored through the National Eagle Scout Association's website or the College Scholarships nonprofit foundation.

Mabel and Lawrence S. Cook Scholarships

  • The Mabel and Lawrence S. Cook Scholarships are awarded annually based on academic achievement. At the time of publication, these scholarships include several $2,500 awards, four $25,000 awards and one $48,000 award. The larger scholarship amounts of $25,000 and $48,000 are disbursed in installments over the course of the student’s undergraduate career and are dependent on the student’s full-time enrollment. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be Eagle Scouts who are seniors in high school with an SAT score of 1800 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher. Standardized testing scores must be submitted with the application for the scholarship, along with high school transcripts, a statement of financial need and a personal recommendation.

STEM Scholarship

  • The National Eagle Scout Association provides an annual academic scholarship of $50,000, at the time of publication, to Eagle Scouts who plan to pursue and major in a STEM field -- science, technology, engineering or math. This scholarship money is disbursed in four yearly payments of $12,500 over the course of the scout’s undergraduate career. As with the Mabel and Lawrence S. Cook scholarship, applicants must be Eagle Scouts who are seniors in high school, with an SAT score of 1800 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher. The scholarship is available only to students attending a four-year college or university. In addition to submitting standardized testing scores and transcripts, applicants must provide a personal statement including their STEM-related career aspirations and a recommendation letter from a high school teacher.

United Health Foundation Scholarship

  • The United Health Foundation and the National Eagle Scout Association partner to provide an academic scholarship of $25,000 to one Eagle Scout every year. This scholarship is set aside for Eagle Scouts who choose to pursue health care and agree to work in a medical facility of a disadvantaged community following graduation. Applicants must be Eagle Scouts who are seniors in high school, with an SAT score of 1800 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher. In the application, Eagle Scouts must provide the name and cost of their intended university, and the ways in which they plan to pursue health care and use their knowledge to benefit others.

Merit Scholarships

  • The National Eagle Scout Association provides 150 annual merit scholarships of $1,000 each, through the Hall/McElwain merit award. These scholarships are granted to Eagle scouts based on scouting participation, community involvement and personal character. This scholarship is open to undergraduate college students in their first, second or third year as well as high school seniors, but students may only receive the scholarship once. The top three candidates in the running for the Hall/McElwain scholarship are awarded the Robert and Rebecca Palmer scholarship, a one-time merit-based award of $2,500.
