The Jetsons Costume Ideas

Save

Halloween is such a festive time of year -- people are decorating their yards, throwing parties and dressing up in costumes. Some of the best costumes are handmade and put together by the wearer. Iconic characters such as George and Jane Jetson make great costumes for couples or even individual party-goers.

Wigs

  • George and Jane Jetson are both redheads. Unless you have naturally red hair, look for a red wig that can be styled into a Jetson hairdo. George's hair is easy to imitate as it is short and parted to the side. Jane, on the other hand, has a more intricate hairstyle. It is short for a woman, and parts in the middle at the front. If you have long hair, you will need to pin it up under the wig. You can look for a wig at your local costume shops or superstores.

Shirt/Dress

  • George wears a long-sleeved white shirt with the collar popped up. His shirt features three short, horizontal black bars placed close together near the neckline. This look can be imitated by using a white button down and hot gluing black felt bars onto the front. Jane sports a purple dress and white triangular collar. Any purple dress will do, and you can cut it to the appropriate shape and length. As for the collar, white foam board is rigid enough to stand out on its own. Simply cut it into a triangle, cut a hole in the center for your head to go through and make one cut from the center hole to the outer edge. This will allow you to put the collar over your head easily.

Pants/Leggings

  • George's pants are bright blue with a green belt. His shirt is tucked into them. In a pinch blue jeans will do; however, a softer fabric will look more futuristic. Pajama or scrub pants will do nicely. If you cannot find a green belt, spray paint will look convincing enough or green fabric may be used as a substitute. Jane has lighter purple leggings under her dress. These may be found at most clothing stores for little money.

Shoes

  • George's shoes will be tough to find; he wears white space boots that come up to about mid-calf. Ski boots will work best, as they come up to the right height and have a "spacey" look. Search thrift stores and if that fails, turn to the Internet. If nothing comes up, white tennis shoes are acceptable. Jane's white shoes will be much easier to find. Women's white flats or heels are available at any shoe store.
