Adults rarely celebrate each birthday, so when they do it's a big party. Themed parties add an instant sense of fun and flair to them. Choose a theme which fits the personality of the birthday honoree as well as something the rest of the guests will enjoy. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Mardi Gras

    • Throw a Mardi Gras-themed party. Ask guests to come dressed in wild colors, and give them masquerade masks and beads as they arrive. Decorate with twinkle lights and balloon arches all around the area. Serve southern food such as shrimp creole, steamed crawfish and jambalaya. Have a band playing Mardi Gras music and encourage everyone to dance freely.

    Casino Theme

    • Host a casino-themed party where guests can play games like at a real casino. Decorate with Vegas signs, neon lights and playing cards on the walls. Hire a casino company to bring in roulette, craps, blackjack and poker tables along with dealers. Give your guests fake money and give the person who has the most fake money at the end of the night a prize, such as a gift certificate. Have waitresses walk around with passed appetizers and cocktails.

    Pirate Party

    • Have a pirate party. Invite guests with a message in a bottle or scroll invite. Ask everyone to dress up like a pirate or wench. Serve beer, hard liquor, wine and Medieval foods. Decorate the area with pirate flags, a fake talking parrot, plastic gold pieces and ships. Play a walk-the-plank game or scavenger hunt to keep people entertained or hire a band for dancing.

    Western Party

    • Bring out the cowboys and indians. Cover the walls in wanted posters featuring the birthday person. Serve beer and barbecue food. Hire a band to play and lead everyone in square and line dancing. then have a lasso competition to see who can lasso a fake horse (or a person) best. If your budget allows, rent a mechanical bull and let guests try their best at staying on.
