Sentimental weddings are memorable for you as well as your guests.

Having a sentimental wedding ceremony and reception can be the difference between just another wedding and a wedding filled with lifelong memories for you and your guests. Adding personal touches can seem tedious and time consuming but will be well worth the effort in the end with memories to last a lifetime. Both the ceremony and the reception can include sentimental touches.

  1. Sentimental Decorations

    • Decorating with a theme that has meaning for you and your future spouse is a way to add sentiment to the entire event. For example, if you are blending families, place photos of the children throughout the ceremony and reception areas to add a sentimental touch for family and friends as well as for your children. For a small ceremony ask each guest to bring a single stem flower of his choice. These flowers can be gathered and then used in the bridal bouquet, for corsages or even placed on the ground creating a ceremonial circle for the bride and groom to stand inside during their vows.

    Sentimental Vows

    • Set aside the traditional wedding vows and write your own. You and your future spouse can write vows to each other or together to make the ceremony more sentimental to you, your family and friends. If you are blending families you can have the children write vows explaining their commitment to the new family or you can write vows to the stepchildren who will soon be part of your new family. Most officiators are open to personal vows and dedications during the ceremony.

    Sentimental Favors

    • Give each guest a wedding favor that holds sentimental meaning for you and for those close to you. If the guest list is small, under 25 people, personalized favors can be an option. For larger guest lists, the favors should be something that holds meaning such as a Compact Disc with songs from the wedding. Flower seeds can also be given so the guests can plant the seeds in a flower bed and be reminded of the couple and the wedding every time they see the flowers.

    Sentimental Themes

    • Sentimental wedding themes are romantic and true to who the bride and groom are as a couple. Having the wedding and reception in a place the bride and groom met represents a theme of its own. Include flowers, doves or hearts for a romantic, sentimental theme that everyone will enjoy and remember. Sentimental themes can also be focused around a favorite sport or hobby for which the bride and broom share a love. For example if the couple shares a love of horses, the theme can be a country one or the ceremony could be performed on horseback.
