Getting a driver's license is a big deal. It means personal independence and freedom, provided you have access to a car. In the United States, teenagers are eligible for a driver's license at the age of 16, and most take the test right away. Choose an appropriate gift to congratulate someone who just received her driver's license.
Hands-Free Cell Phone Device
Buy a Bluetooth device for someone who has just gotten a driver's license. Many people have cell phones these days, and it can be tempting to text or talk while driving. But not only is that practice outlawed in some areas, it can lead to an accident when a person is more focused on his phone than the road. Choose a Bluetooth device that acts as a phone placed in the person's ear. Another idea is an ear piece that connects by a cord to the person's phone. More sophisticated devices are installed in the person's car and cause the phone to work through the car's speaker system.
Purchase a gas card for the new driver. Gas can be expensive, especially for a teenager who does not have a job, or works for minimum wage. That way, she will be able to go see her friends, run errands and simply drive around without having to worry about the cost.
Driver's Safety Kit
Choose a driver's safety kit for the recipient. That way, he will be prepared if his car breaks down or he runs out of gas and has to stay put for a little while. You can find ready-made driver's safety kits at many department stores and stores that sell car parts. Typically, they contain items like a flash light, a jack, flares, a tire gauge, a map, a can of flat tire fix, oil and even bandages. These items can come in handy in case of emergency.
Select a global positioning system for a new driver. While some GPS systems require monthly subscriptions, others are much simpler. These can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle and easily find plugged in addresses or basic destinations, such as nearby restaurants and stores. Having a GPS can give a new driver greater peace of mind.
