Loot Bags for Girls
-
While there are many loot bad items that can be considered unisex, if your child is of the age where she has chosen to have an all-girls party, there are plenty of inexpensive trinkets you can use to fill the girls' loot bags. For younger girls, try hair barrettes, plastic jewelry or a tea-party set. For older girls, select some inexpensive costume jewelry, cool notebooks or diaries and funky hair accessories.
Loot Bags for Boys
-
Alternatively, if your child's birthday party is a boys-only affair, you have the liberty of choosing loot bag items that will appeal to their specific gender. For younger boys, choose dinosaur figurines, Lego games or toy cars. For older boys, choose water balloons, a set of magic tricks or even a dollar-store table-top sports game like mini-foosball or mini-table hockey. Don't select any trinkets that other parents may deem inappropriate or violent, such as toy guns or war-related games.

Edible Items
-
Candy and other goodies are a standard part of most loot bags. However, candy should be used in moderation and should not be included in a loot bag in large sums just to add volume to the parting gift. If giving things like gummy candies, give individually portioned bags (such as those you find around Halloween) so that parents can monitor how much candy their children are eating. Don't include any edible items that contain nuts.
Seasonal Loot Bags
-
Seasonal loot bags are a great option for birthday parties with guests of varying ages, different genders and that don't necessarily have a specific theme. If your child's birthday party is in the spring or summer, try a warm weather loot bag that includes a beach ball, sand shovel and sidewalk chalk. If the party takes place during the winter months, try including a pair of funky mittens or gloves, a matching tuque and some individual packets of hot chocolate.
