Unique Woman's Halloween Costume Ideas
For many Americans Halloween ranks as the second favorite, just behind Christmas, of all holidays. Women enjoy the childlike experience of "make believe" afforded by dressing up in costume. Halloween stores stock a variety of "off the shelf" costumes. Creating a unique costume that stands out among the rest, though, requires imagination and creativity. The act of creating an original costume provides a sense of satisfaction and pride not afforded by purchasing a premade costume.

Other Guest
-
For parties or other activities where the guest list consists of a group of close friends, relatives or coworkers, dressing as one of the other guests makes a unique costume. Of course, more unusual individuals create the best targets. A woman dressing as a male guest creates a higher humor quotient. Check with the other person first to avoid hurt feelings. Perhaps the target will lend items to make the costume even more accurate.
Gender Swap
-
People most often think of gender-swap costumes in terms of men dressing as women, but the opposite can work well. A beard, bandanna, temporary tattoos, leather vest, leather pants and biker boots transform a woman into a tough biker. Wear a flannel shirt with sleeves rolled up, jeans, work boots and a hard hat to become a construction worker, and don't forget the catcalls as part of the character. Gender swaps works most effectively with the most stereotypically masculine characters.

Art
-
Wear a picture frame created from wood or cardboard that surrounds the upper half of the body. A light-colored shirt (a disposable one) signed in marker finishes the "self-portrait" costume. Black clothing serves as the backdrop for other artwork costumes. Attaching cut-out white paper or reflective tape in the right patterns creates a stick person. A print of any work of art attached to the black backdrop, with the addition of the picture frame allows a woman to become a painting by Da Vinci, Van Gogh or any other artist.
The Name Game
-
Using the name of a type of person as inspiration creates some novel costume concepts. A gold dress, shoes and jewelry combined with a shovel creates a "gold digger." A box turned into a house worn as a costume with a bridal veil as a finishing touch serves as a "housewife" costume. Wear a bee costume and add a crown and some jewelry to become "queen bee." Create a newspaper on a cardboard box with paint and wear it to become a "news lady."
