The tomato variety for a hanging basket should be chosen carefully, as most varieties will not grow well under container conditions. The Patio Hybrid tomato variety is a strong dwarf plant that produces relatively large, 3-ounce fruit in 65 days. The Patio Hybrid is better suited to larger hanging baskets and may struggle in containers that allow only a gallon or two of soil.
