Designing a new kitchen or remodeling an existing one can prompt you to select a new set of appliances. If you are working with a small space or just don't use a microwave much, you may want to "think small" when the time comes to choose a microwave. The smallest over-the-range microwaves have less than 2 cubic feet of capacity.
With a height of 16 inches, the JVM1665DNWW ranks among GE's shortest over-the-range microwaves. It measures 29-7/8 inches wide and 15-3/8 inches deep. This 1.6-cubic-foot microwave oven offers 1,000 watts of cooking power and provides a 1,200-watt grilling element. This white appliance also comes in black (JVM1665DNBB) and stainless-steel (JVM1665SNSS) designs.
Frigidaire also offers one of the shortest microwaves on the market, as well as one of the shallowest. The FFMV152CLW measures 16-13/32 inches high, 29-7/8 inches wide and 15-1/32 inches deep. This white model offers 1.5 cubic feet of cooking space and 900 watts of cooking power with a stainless-steel interior. You can also buy it in black (FFMV152CLB).
Another product with limited depth measurements is the Whirlpool WMH1164XWS. It measures 15-7/16 inches deep, 17-¼ inches high and 29-15/16 inches wide. Buyers of this model get 1,000 watts of cooking power and 1.6 cubic feet of capacity in a stainless-steel finish.
Another shallow microwave for consumers to consider is the GE JVM1540MPSA. This appliance provides 1.5 cubic feet of space and 950 watts of cooking power. It has a black and silver metallic finish, with measurements of 29-7/8 inches wide, 16-25/32 inches high and 15-11/32 inches deep.
One of the microwaves with the lowest measurements for height and depth comes from Sharp. The R-1874 stands 16-11/32 inches high, 29-15/16 inches wide and 15-9/32 inches deep. It delivers 1.1 cubic feet of capacity and convection cooking with 850 watts of power. This unit has a stainless-steel finish.
LG's entries into the small, over-the-range microwave category include the LMV1680ST. This 1.6 cubic-foot appliance has 1,000 watts of cooking power in a stainless-steel finish. It also comes in white (LMV1680WW) and black (LMV1680BB). It measures 16-7/16 inches high, 15-5/8 inches deep and 29-15/16 inches wide.
Another small microwave offered by Sharp is the R-1405. It has 1.4 cubic feet of capacity and 950 watts of cooking power. This black unit is 16-¼ inches high, 29-15/16 inches wide and 15-9/16 inches deep.
