The Best Ways to Propose on the Beach

A beach offers many attractive elements for a romantic proposal. Waves rushing in on the sand, fresh air and the beauty of nature all combine to form a lovely background for this important question. This type of locale will be special whether the beach is a familiar haunt or one discovered on a vacation together. You can keep the proposal casual or follow a carefully orchestrated plan.

Sunset Proposal

  • Sunset is the most popular time for beach proposals. The warm glow of the setting sun enhances the romantic mood of the setting. Take a long walk on the beach as the sun is just starting its decent. Walking together hand in hand and talking about the future will make a great conversation to begin the proposal. Once you have reached a particularly beautiful spot or a particularly important part of the conversation, get down on one knee and tell her how much she means to you and propose marriage with a ring. The beauty and the sentiment of the moment will make it unforgettable.

Proposal in the Sand

  • This type of beach proposal is especially perfect for a vacation where the property looks out onto the beach. Tell her you are going out for a run or walk while she is suntanning or inside. Go down to the sand and carefully trace out the words "___, Will You Marry Me" or something to that effect in the sand. It will take a fair bit of time to ensure the words do not blur, so she should be doing something that will occupy her for long enough. Once the message has been written, call her out onto the balcony or deck and kneel next to it. Once she steps out, she will never forget the message or the moment.

Message in a Bottle

  • This one is a very special way to surprise a bride-to-be. Write a special poem about your girl, ending it with a proposal of marriage. Singe the edges to make it look older and worn. Place it in a glass bottle and bury it in a specific spot on a special part of the beach. A private or secluded beach is best for this one, too. Make sure you'll be able to easily find it. Ask her to go for a walk and search for seashells in the specific spot. Dig up the bottle and pretend to wonder what is inside. Pull out the poem that will appear to be a random love note between long lost lovers, but eventually becomes more specific about your lady love.

Fun in the Sun

  • Pretend to be kids again and build a giant sand castle together on a private or secluded beach. Make it as elaborate as possible with a moat and all. When she is down by the water with a container to dampen the sand, place a premade flag with the words "Will you marry me?" on the top of the castle. Kneel next to the sculpture so when she returns she has an unforgettable view of your creation together.
