Pentax was established in 1919 as the Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co. Since then, Pentax has grown into an international manufacturer of camera and camera accessories. The Pentax 645D provides users with the ability to take detailed, digital photographs under a variety of shooting conditions.

  1. Sensor, Shutter, Viewfinder, Monitor

    • Pentax 645D cameras have a 40-megapixel, charge-coupled device sensor with a pixel size of 6-by-6 µm and a primary color filter that measures 1.73-by-1.30 inches. The shutter operates either manually or automatically, with an exposure that lasts from 0.00025 of a second to 30 seconds. The viewfinder is a trapezoid prism type of finder with a natural, bright or matte focusing screen. The viewfinder provides users with a field-of-view of approximately 98 percent. This camera features a 3-inch TFT color screen monitor with about 921,000 pixels.

    Operation

    • Pentax 645D cameras have a variety of shooting modes, including single-frame and multiple exposures, continuous shooting and interval shooting. A self-timer and remote enables users to control shots without manipulating camera controls. This unit uses a host of playback features, such as enlargement, rotation, cropping and resizing. Photos are displayed in grids up to 81 images in size with slideshow, calendar view, index view and folder view display options. The camera uses SD and SDHC memory cards. In regular shooting conditions, the battery has a capacity of up to 800 shots before running out of energy.

    • The Pentax 645D has daylight, shade, cloudy, auto, tungsten and fluorescent light white settings and adjusts according to flash. The camera has three manual white balance setting slots and three color temperature settings. This unit has an ISO sensitivity between 100 and 1600 and a 77 segment metering system that work together to produce photos in a variety of difficult lighting situations. A mirror dampening system reduces the distortion of a shaken camera by attaching a brake to the swing that holds the mirror.

    Accessories, Construction

    • The Pentax 645D package includes two Pentax straps, a large Pentax eye cup, an AC plug cord, a battery charger and a rechargeable, D-LI90 lithium-ion battery. The camera is 4.6 inches tall, 6.1 inches wide with a depth of 4.7 inches. This unit weighs 49.4 oz without accessories and 52.2 oz with the battery and two SD cards. The camera is completely weather sealed, protecting against water, dust and other hazards.The body is made of a magnesium alloy, providing strength and durability without weighing the camera down.
