Architectural Grants & Scholarships
Architectural organizations offer a variety of scholarships to students, as well as grants to both community organizations and practicing architects. Some programs are awarded on the national level, and others are limited to applicants based on residency, gender or race. Many architecture schools also offer scholarships to attending students.

American Architectural Foundation

The American Architectural Foundation (archfoundation.org) offers several scholarship and grant programs. The AIA/AAF Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship Program awards between $3,000 and $4,000 to graduating high school seniors and college freshmen who belong to an ethnic or racial minority or come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Richard Morris Hunt Fellowship offers up to $25,000 to current design professionals. The Accent on Architecture Community Grants Program makes grant money available to nonprofit organizations to fund projects aimed at increasing awareness of architecture among K-12 students.
Landscape Architecture Foundation

Students pursuing a career in landscape architecture can apply for one of several scholarships available from the Landscape Architecture Foundation (lafoundation.org). The Courtland Paul Scholarship awards $5,000 each year to an undergraduate landscape architecture student in her final two years. The EDSA Minority Scholarship is available in the amount of $5,000 to minority undergraduates in their last two undergraduate years. Other available LAF scholarships include the Landscape Forms Design for People Scholarship, Rain Bird Intelligent Use of Water Scholarship and the Peridian International, Inc./Rae L. Price FASLA Scholarship.

Center for Architecture Foundation

The Center for Architecture Foundation (cfafoundation.org) offers several scholarships to architecture students in New York state, including the $7,500 to $10,000 Eleanor Allwork Scholarship and the $5,000 Center for Architecture Foundation Design Scholarship. The Center For Architecture Foundation also administers several grant programs to applicants throughout the United States. The Arnold W. Brunner Grant is available to practicing architects in amounts of up to $15,000. The Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant offers up to $15,000 to assist practicing architects by defraying the cost of travel.
Scholarships by Race and Gender

Some scholarships for architecture are limited to students of a specific race or gender. For example, the HACIA Foundation (haciascholarshipfoundation.org) offers the the Alphonse Guajardo Architectural Scholarship to Hispanic and Latino students pursuing a master's of architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Association for Women in Architecture (awa-la.org) offers annual scholarships to female architecture students who are residents of California and have completed at least 18 credits within their major.
School-Specific Scholarships

Most colleges and universities that offer degrees in architecture also award scholarships to attending students. For example, the College of Design at Iowa State University (design.iastate.edu) makes the $1,250 Chi and Pam Chiu Design Scholarship, $1,000 DAC Scholarship and $2,500 Design Diversity Scholarship available to architecture majors. The College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (architecture.unl.edu) offers many departmental scholarships, including the Hemphill Memorial Scholarship Fund for first-year students and the Charles A. Wilscam Jr. Student Excellence Fund for master's and Ph.D. students. Be sure to apply for all departmental scholarships offered by your school.
