Tips on Writing a Catholic Confirmation Letter
It is a special honor to be asked to be a sponsor for a confirmation candidate in the Catholic Church. The sponsor offers support and guidance to the candidate. Oftentimes, the sponsor writes a confirmation letter to the candidate to affirm her decision to move forward with her Catholic faith. There are no hard and fast rules on how to write such a letter, but letters typically contain a few common themes. As you compose your letter, remember the first rule of thumb is to write from the heart.
-
Your Relationship with God
-
As your candidate prepares to confirm his faith in God and the Catholic Church, he may have questions about what his own faith journey and what confirmation means for her future. Tell your candidate about your relationship with God from childhood, through confirmation and as an adult. Explain how your faith has made you a better person and how being a Catholic Christian has helped you.
You and Your Candidate
-
Confirmation candidates typically ask special people in their lives to sponsor them. Make your letter personal by talking about special memories you have with the candidate. These can be of a religious nature or other memories that mean something to you. This is a good place to share your memories of your confirmation as well.
-
Religious Activities
-
Share some of your favorite religious activities with your candidate such as Bible study, certain retreats or volunteering for different events. Also, include some of your favorite religious songs and prayers. Discuss why confirmation is important.
Believing in God
-
Advise your candidate on ways that she can maintain her relationship with God. These ideas may include going to church and praying every day. Include ways that you find effective for you and your relationship with God.
