Food You'll Need
-
Gather your ingredients ahead of time. You need a 16-ounce package of chocolate sandwich cookies, a stick of butter, 8 ounces of cream cheese, a cup of powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, two 4-serving packages of chocolate pudding mix, a 12-ounce container of frozen whipped topping and 3 cups of cold milk. Allow the whipped topping to thaw before you begin. Take the butter and cream cheese out of the refrigerator to soften before you begin, and allow the whipped topping to thaw. You'll also need eight gummy worms.
Other Supplies
-
Gather a fork, an electric or hand mixer, a plastic spatula and three mixing bowls. To hold your dirt cake, you need a brand new, clean, plastic flower pot. You can use an 8-inch sand bucket or plastic pot, or you can make two smaller dirt cakes with two 6-inch pots. Get a brand new, clean trowel for serving your dirt cake. If you want, you can decorate your dirt cake with a few plastic or silk flowers or some plastic bugs.

First Mixing Bowl
-
Place the milk in a mixing bowl. Add the pudding mix, then use your mixer to combine the ingredients. Use your plastic spatula to fold the whipped topping into the pudding mixture.
Second Mixing Bowl
-
In a second mixing bowl, combine the butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip the mixture with your mixer until the mixture is creamy. Stir the pudding mixture into the butter mixture.
Dirt
-
To make the dirt for your dirt cake, place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a bowl. Crush the cookies with a fork until they look like dirt. If you want, you can put the cookies in a zip-seal bag and crush the cookies with a rolling pin.
Putting it All Together
-
Put about a third of the dirt in the bottom of the sand flower pot. If your flower pot has a hole, line the pot with aluminum foil so the dirt doesn't fall through the bottom of the pot. Pour half of the pudding mixture over the dirt, then cover the pudding with an additional layer of dirt. Finish with the remainder of the pudding mixture and the last third of dirt. Put your dirt cake in the refrigerator to set up overnight.
Finishing the Dirt Cake
-
Add the gummy worms to the top of your dirt cake. Decorate your dirt cake with a few plastic or silk flowers or plastic bugs, if you like. Serve your dirt cake with a trowel.
