Turn all those gum wrappers into material for crafts.

Gum wrappers are convenient in many craft projects because they come in pre-cut pieces and are all the same size. They are ideal if you want to make some recycled jewelry or if you need to make miniature decorations for a doll house. Gum wrapper crafts are also good for keeping kids entertained and promoting creativity.

  1. Beads

    • Make some beads for a "silver" piece of beaded jewelry. Roll a gum wrapper around a toothpick or another thin tube and crinkle up the sides to help it retain its shape. If it won't stay in a rolled-up shape, apply a drop of craft glue the size of a pinhead to the paper and press it down. Wait two hours for the glue to dry. Slide the gum wrapper bead off the toothpick. Alternately, make a round bead by molding the wrapper into a ball with your fingers and carefully poking a hole through it with a sewing needle. Feed string or wire through the holes in gum wrapper beads to make a necklace or bracelet.

    Chain

    • Collect 20 gum wrappers. Fold each gum wrapper in half length-wise, then open. Cut down the middle along the crease with a pair of scissors. Take one half-piece and fold it in half length-wise two more times to make it thinner. Then fold the ends in half toward the middle so the wrapper has two prongs. This creates one "link." Repeat this process with the other gum wrapper pieces. Link the wrappers together by inserting the prongs one link through the two slots in another, forming a "V" shape. When you have connected all of the links, put it around your wrist or your neck and link the ends together.

    Change Purse

    • Lay some foil gum wrappers on a table with the foiled sides face down. Line them up in seven rows of five with the ends overlapping about 1/4 inch. Tape the ends down with small pieces of duct tape to connect them. Fold the sheet of gum wrappers in thirds width-wise, like you are folding a letter, with the duct tape on the inside. Duct tape the open sides together on the bottom two-thirds, so that you end up with a pouch and a flap that goes over the top to keep your money from falling out. The duct tape holding the sides together will be visible, so make the pieces small.

    Doll House Doilies

    • Decorate a doll house by making some simple paper doilies out of gum wrappers. Cut a rectangular gum wrapper into square sections. Place a nickel or a quarter on the gum wrapper squares and cut around the outsides of the coin with a sharp utility knife. Fold each circle into a wedge like a piece of pie. Cut small sections out of the wedge. Use the tip of the utility knife for more precision. Unfold the wrapper to reveal the doily. Press it between the pages of a thick book to smooth the creases.
