Use photography to further the hunting theme.

A hunting theme will come to life with the use of richly colored masculine patterns and textures. Plaid, camouflage and bold stripes will go a long way toward making the room cozy and giving it that outdoorsy, camping feel associated with hunting. Incorporate animal motifs and landscapes through artwork, drapery and accessories to complete the look. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Camouflage

    • Camouflage is a powerful pattern to use. For a hunting-themed room, consider making drapes or throw pillows from green or gray camouflage patterns. If you can find a set of sheets in this pattern, pair them with a solid-colored comforter or duvet. Head to the local military surplus store to look for camouflage accessories that you can place throughout the room. For instance, a camouflage vest draped over a bed rail or a rocking chair will add a pop of color.

    Woodsy

    • To bring a woodsy, outdoors feeling to the bedroom, use plaid blankets for the bed. Consider wallpapering the room with plaid paper in dark colors. If the whole room is too much, wallpaper one feature wall and pain the rest in navy, maroon, chocolate brown or forest green. Introduce wood wherever possible with an armoire, a rocking chair, a chest for storage and a bed frame. Complete the theme with a set of antlers hung above the bed or door.

    Animals

    • A kitschy lamp shaped like a moose, a bearskin rug and animal-themed artwork are welcome additions. If you have photographs from previous hunting trips, choose a few of the best and have them professionally framed. Other ways to incorporate animals into the room include picture frames and mirrors with animals, and animal prints for draperies and throw pillows. Another idea is to add taxidermy to the room. Limit it to one or two animals placed in separate areas.

    Accessories

    • Display hunting accessories around the room to finish the theme. Roll up sleeping bags in a basket in the corner. Hang a compass around the shade of a bedside lamp. Place a set of binoculars on a shelf or dresser in plain view next to a flashlight. Litter safe hunting accessories throughout the room to tie the hunting theme together. Look for vintage books on hunting to create a collage for one wall in the room. Stacks of firewood next to a fireplace will help pull natural elements into the bedroom.
