Sun Games for Kids
That brilliant orb that lights up our days, also known as the sun, is intriguing and alluring to children. Whether you're celebrating the coming of sun-filled summer days, or you're teaching about the sun, consider presenting children with sun-themed games to play. Games make learning fun and present information in a manner that relates to children.

Shadow Tag
-
Play a game of shadow tag when teaching about the sun. On a clear day, take children outside to an unobstructed area. Select one child to be it. The remaining children run around, trying to stay as far away as the child who is it as they can. The child who is it tries to step on the shadows of the players. When it steps on a players shadow, the player is out of the game. The game continues until the child who is it has stepped on all the shadows of his opponents.
Pin the Sunglasses on the Sun
-
This sun-themed game is adopted from the traditional game of pin the tail on the donkey. Draw a large image of a sun on a piece of poster board, complete with a nose, a smile and eyes; hang the image on a wall. Draw and cut out pictures of sunglasses for each child who will be playing the game and on the back of each pair of sunglasses, place a piece of double-sided tape. Place a blindfold on one child at a time and point him in the direction of the sun. Children try to place the sunglasses on the sun's face; the child who places his sunglasses closest to covering the sun's eyes wins the game.

Sun Relay
-
Have children compete in a sun relay race. Divide a group of children up into two teams and have the teams stand in single file lines. Draw an image of a sun for each team and give the image to the first person standing in line. Place a piece of duct tape on the ground to indicate where the teams must run, about eight feet away from each of the teams. On your mark, the first player on each team must run to the duct tape line, turn around and run back to his team and hand off the sun to the next player. The relay continues until one team has had each person compete in the race; this team is the winner of the sun relay race.
Sun Hunt
-
Children search for a hidden sun in this game. Draw, cut out and hide a large picture of the sun. Gather children and explain to them that the sun has gone missing and it is up to them to find it. Divide children into teams of two and send the teams off to search for the sun. If children are having difficulty finding the sun, provide them with "hot and cold" clues to help them locate the picture. The first pair to find the missing sun wins the game.
