Irish music festivals bring to mind images of singing leprechauns, haunting melodies, soft jazz and head-banging. Irish music festivals have a whole different vibe that makes them irresistible, which is why they're so popular all over the world. In Ireland, simply talking of festivals like Oxegen, the Dublin Irish Festival or Electric Picnic is enough to make you part of the in-crowd. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Oxegen

    • Oxegen started in 2004 and six years later, it's morphed into one of the biggest music festivals globally. Oxegen is held at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare and is attended by approximately 90,000 people per day, with 80,000 camping onsite. This three-day festival in July features more contemporary new acts than traditional Irish music, but that's offered too. Famous acts at Oxegen include Kings of Leon and The Who, who first performed in Ireland after a 35-year break.

    Live At The Marquee

    • Live At The Marquee is an Irish music festival that begun as a celebration of Cork's status as the European Capital of Culture in Cork in 2005. This is held in the months of June to July on assorted days. What began as a small festival on Monhana Road ended up as one of the key music events in Ireland with music stars such as Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and Lady Gaga appearing. Live At The Marquee 2011 begins on June 11 and running up to July 9. This festival will host artists such as Bryan Adams, The Frames, Erasure and Westlife.

    Dublin Irish Festival

    • If you're based in the U.S. and love Irish music, then the Dublin Irish Festival in Dublin, Ohio, is for you. Held over three days in August, the Dublin Irish Festival attracts more than 100,000 festival-goers every year and features some of the biggest names in the music industry. In 2011, the Dublin Irish Festival will run from August 5 to 7 and features the big Ireland music acts Gaelic Storm, Dervish, Moya Brennan, Step Crew, Teada, the Young Dubliners, The Elders and Tartan Terrors. At the Dublin Irish festival, you get to enjoy all things Irish: the food, music and dance.

    Electric Picnic

    • One of Ireland's coolest art and music festivals, the Electric Picnic is not to be missed if you like psychedelic rock music. With bands such as The Flaming Lips, Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys and Sigur Rós, this festival is truly electric. It usually runs for two days in September in Stradbally, County Laois.
