Window Treatments
-
Natural wood blinds hung over windows bring the color brown to a window with a worthwhile purpose. The blinds block the light when closed or add privacy. The window treatment could stop with blinds; however, adding orange curtains will bring more color into the room and soften the look. Depending on the main occupant of the den, the curtains could be floral, plaid or checked. Floral and plaid fabrics introduce other colors in a subtle way and create a third color in the room decor. Small doses of a third color create a more interesting room rather than limiting it to two colors.
Accessories
-
Oranges in a wood bowl set on a table is a way to introduce both colors. Use a lampshade in a light orange color, and place it beside a sofa or chair for reading. Desk accessories for holding pens and paperclips are a standout in orange. Cloth or woven storage baskets are useful and colorful accessories for a den as well. A vase of fresh cut Tiger lilies from the garden is a nice touch.

Floors
-
Area rugs placed over a hardwood floor bring color at your feet. An area rug allows for a lot of diversity. Keep the main color of the rug brown, and use orange as a border for an understated look. Choose an abstract design of swirls and bold patterns if you want the rug to be more noticeable.
Furniture
-
A brown leather sofa or chair gives a den a sophisticated look and provides seating for reading or company. Pillows make a sofa more welcoming, and the fabric can be orange and brown plaid or bold orange flowers. Several pillows in light to dark orange will make a dramatic statement. An orange throw draped over the back of the chair or sofa provides a home-like element to the room.
Walls
-
A wall divided with a chair rail introduces two colors on one wall. Paint brown on the bottom portion and a light orange or cream color on top. Pick out pictures to hang of autumn trees, orange sunsets, flowers -- or go with abstract art.
