Simple Ideas for Teen Girl Rooms

Simple Ideas for Teen Girl Rooms thumbnail
Use your teen's passion as the inspiration for her bedroom decor.

Your teen girl is at an age when she'll want to dictate her own style and decor. Give her some simple ideas to decorate her bedroom that you're okay with and that won't break the bank. Allow her some freedom to choose the style, colors and design she wants, as long as she runs it all by you first. Compromising will give you the final say while allowing her to create a space she's most comfortable in. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Polka Dots

    • Bright and colorful polka dots can brighten up your teen's bedroom with minimal time or effort. Paint polka dots directly onto the walls or furniture, or opt for temporary peel-and-stick dots. Use a random color scheme or select two colors, such as fuchsia and orange or lime green and turquoise. Just a few polka dots in your chosen colors will go a long way against a neutral background, such as white, beige or chocolate brown. Add polka dot details to smaller items that you can easily change later, such as the comforter, pillows, rug, lampshade or baskets on shelves.

    Flowers

    • Implement a simple flower theme in your teen's room if she enjoys spring or likes fresh beginnings. Use her favorite flowers if she has a favorite, such as sunflowers, daisies, roses, cherry blossoms or wildflowers. For example, paint tree branches on the walls and affix silk cherry blossoms randomly on the branches for a cherry blossom theme. Use a light pink comforter with chocolate brown pillows, a pink rug and a light pink vase in the corner with tree branches and silk cherry blossoms to complete the look.

    Animal Prints

    • Just a few details with animal prints will make a big impact. Use your teen's favorite or mix and match. For example, black and white zebra stripes or cow spots will stand out against any color. Alternatively, you can accessorize the black and white patterns with small bursts of any bright color, such as yellow, aqua, lime green or red. Pair cheetah print with fuchsia or turquoise for a bold statement. The animal prints and bright colors lend themselves well to accessories, such as on a throw tossed over an ottoman or chair, lampshades, throw pillows and curtains.

    Music

    • If she's a musician or just a huge fan, consider decorating the room with a music theme. Peel-and-stick music notes, her actual guitar or framed posters featuring her favorite musicians will set the tone for the room. Use any solid-colored bedding or a musically themed set featuring her favorite instrument or band. Add toss pillows in the shape of her favorite instrument or make your own out of old concert T-shirts. Display novelty instrument-shaped lamps, pencil holders or other items on her desk or shelves to round out the theme.
