College Funding Scholarships or Grants for Disabled Veterans
A variety of scholarships and grants are available to former military personnel who are disabled. Some scholarships are also extended to family members of disabled veterans, such as dependent children and spouses. While national organizations offer scholarships to students throughout the United States, other grant programs may be limited to students from specific states or students attending specific schools.

National Scholarships

Several organizations provide scholarships and educational grants to disabled veterans throughout the nation. For example, the Military Order of the Purple Heart offers $3,000 scholarships to disabled veterans who are also MOPH members. The AFCEA Educational Foundation makes scholarships of $2,500 available to disabled veterans pursuing undergraduate degrees related to science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The organization Sentinels of Freedom offers not only educational grant assistance, but also assistance with necessities such as adaptive housing, equipment and transportation for up to four years.
National Scholarships Open to Veteran Families

Several national organizations extend educational grant and scholarship programs to the families of disabled veterans. For example, the Military Order of the Purple Heart also offers $3,000 scholarships to the dependent children and spouses of MOPH members. The Folds of Honor Foundation offers scholarships of up to $5,000 to the spouses and dependent children of veterans who were disabled as a result of combat after September 11, 2001. The Freedom Alliance is yet another national organization that offers scholarships to the dependent children of veterans who are permanently disabled.

State-Specific Scholarships

Many states offer scholarships to residents who are disabled veterans or to the families of disabled veterans within the state. For example, Georgia's HERO Scholarship Program offers up to $8,000 over the course of four years to disabled veterans as well as their dependent children and spouses. The Alabama Disabled American Veterans Scholarship Program awards up to $3,000 per year to the dependent children of disabled veterans. The North Carolina Department of Veteran's Affairs offers full-tuition scholarships to the dependents of disabled veterans who are attending public universities within the state. School-Specific Scholarships

Some individual colleges and universities offer scholarships specifically to disabled veterans and sometimes to their families as well. The Severely Injured Scholarship Program at American Sentinel University will pay up to 50 percent of tuition for a disabled veteran or disabled veteran's spouse. Texas A&M University offers the Honored Service Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to disabled veterans. UCLA offers the Bill Tainter Scholarship to residents of Los Angeles County who are disabled as a result of wartime injuries.
