The late 1970's and early 1980's were part of the disco music craze. MTV, also known as music TV, was introduced to the music industry during the 1980's. Great music hits could be seen in music videos as well as played audibly so artists and bands achieved greater exposure. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Top Dance Songs of the 1970's

    • 1978's "Night Fever" by the Bee Gees from the original movie sound track of "Saturday Night Fever" was a huge dance hit along with "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor, "Do you think I'm sexy?" by Rod Stewart and "Y.M.C.A." by the Village People the same year. Other great dance hits from the 1970's include "Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees, "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder, "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by a Taste Of Honey and "Ring my bell" by Anita Ward.

    • Music hits of the 1970's include "Let it be" by the Beatles, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "The Dancing Queen" by Abba, "Stairway to heaven" by Led Zeppelin and "Hotel California" by the Eagles. Hits from the early 1970's include "Me and Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin, "American Pie" by Don McLean, "You're so vain" by Carly Simon, "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" by B.J. Thomas and "I can see clearly now" by Johnny Nash.

    1980's Top Country Songs

    • Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton had big hits in the 1970's individually and together on "Islands in the stream". Kenny sang "Lady" and "I don't need you" and Dolly sang "9 to 5". Kenny also sang a duet with Sheena Easton called "We've got tonight" and a duet with Kim Carnes entitled "Don't fall in love with a dreamer". "Always on my mind" was a big hit by Willie Nelson and he also sang "To all the girls I've loved before" as a duet with Julio Iglesias.

    Great Hits from the 1980's

    • According to APC charts, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 was the top ranked single of the 1980's. In second position was "Purple Rain" by Prince, followed by "Billie Jean" by the late, great Michael Jackson. Other notable songs from the 1980's includes "Africa" by Toto, "In the air tonight" by Phil Collins, "Private Investigations" by Dire Straits and "Summer of 69" by Bryan Adams. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album of the 1980's is one of the most well-known music albums of the century.
