Funny Science Fair Topics
A science fair gives students of all ages the opportunity to apply a scientific method to conduct research on a specific project. These projects usually consist of a display board and a report that records the information the student learned while conducting a project. While this is usually a serious educational pursuit, some science fair projects can also be quite funny for both students and teachers alike.

What is Snot Composed Of?
-
Mucus, also known as snot, is composed mainly of sugars and protein, and although water, cornstarch and gelatin are not exactly the same sugars and protein, they can still be used to make fake "snot" for a funny, gooey science project. Simply combine 1/2 cup of boiling water with 3 teaspoons of gelatin and stir. Then add 1/2 cup of corn syrup. The result will resemble snot from a runny nose. To add a serious element, students can make a chart to go along with their project that shows a diagram of the sinus cavity and explains the function of mucus.
The Farting Project
-
This project is sure to get giggles from kids of all ages. The project can be done in a variety of ways. One example is make a display which explains how gas is formed in the body, why it has an odor, which foods can cause gas and why and how much gas the average person expels on a daily basis. Another project idea is for a student to keep a journal of the times each day that gas occurs, what foods they were eating when it occurred and the relationship between certain foods and the degree of gas and the odor produced.

Are Yawns Contagious?
-
A science fair project on yawns can be quite funny. Students can conduct an experiment with real subjects to test their hypothesis to find out if only real yawns are contagious. They can then make a chart based on their findings. They should use two different sets of test subjects. A student can truly yawn in front of the first group of subjects and record how they respond and how many of them yawn in response. In the front of the other group, a student should fake a yawn by simply opening her mouth but not really yawning. This way, she can see if only real yawns are contagious or if fake yawns will also cause others to yawn.
What Causes a Burp?
-
Burping is usually caused by eating or drinking too fast and swallowing air, which must then be expelled. Burping can also be caused by drinking carbonated beverages. Students can conduct an experiment to see which foods and drinks cause the most burps and if there is a difference when they eat and drink slower or faster. They can also explore the different cultural views on burping and why it is considered a compliment in some countries and impolite behavior in others.
