What Is the Toyota Tacoma SR5?

by Rob Wagner

The Toyota Tacoma SR5 is a standard mid-size pickup truck with a special SR5 option package. The SR5 option packages offer numerous power, audio and comfort features; however, the basic structure of the Tacoma does not change. Toyota offers the Tacoma in regular, extended and crew cab configurations, with long and short cargo beds. The SR5 package is available on any type of Tacoma.

SR5 Package

Toyota markets its SR5 as an "extra value package." It features power outside mirrors on the crew cab models and fog lamps on the 2011 V-6-powered models. Other types of Tacomas equipped with the SR5 package get remote keyless entry, cruise control, chrome grille and rear bumper, extended front and rear fenders, color-keyed front bumper, sliding rear window with tinted glass and bucket seats with lumbar support. The interior seats and door panels feature special fabric trim, metallic-toned instrument panel accents, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a tailgate handle with integrated backup camera. The truck also gets an "SR5" exterior badge.

SR5 Audio Enhancements

All 2011 Tacoma SR5s receive a JBL audio system with AM/FM/CD player, six-disc DC changer, MP3 adaptability, six premium speakers and subwoofer, audio controls on the steering wheel, auxiliary audio jack and Bluetooth connections.

Under the Hood

The Tacoma SR5 option package is available on any truck, but it typically complements the V-6 models. A 2011 Tacoma is available with a 4-liter V-6 engine generating 236 horsepower and 266 foot-pounds of torque. However, Toyota also offers the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 159 horsepower and 180 foot-pounds of torque. Buyers have three transmission choices: a five- or six-speed manual, or a four-speed electronically controlled automatic to match the four- or six-cylinder engines.

Dimensions

The 2011 Toyota Tacoma SR5 regular cab model sits on a 109.6-inch wheelbase and measures 190.4 inches in length. It stands 72.2 inches tall and had a width of 65.8 inches. The bed measures 73.5 inches in length. The frame clears the ground by 8.1 inches. In the extended cab (or access cab) trim, SR5 has a 127.4-inch wheelbase and is 208.1 inches long. The bed's length is the same as that of the regular cab version. The double cab (or crew cab) version features the same dimensions as the extended cab model, but the bed is shortened to 60.3 inches.

Safety Features

The SR5 option package does not affect the 2011 Tacoma's safety features. All Tacomas are equipped with traction control, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution for better stability and handling. A Smart Stop Technology component automatically reduces power to the engine if the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. The interior features three-point seat belts, and driver and front passenger airbags. All 2011 Tacoma SR5s are equipped with daytime running lamps.
