Types of Rosary Beads
Rosary beads are used to count the number of prayers that you complete so you can keep track. Catholics use rosary beads to say their prayers when they are meditating on the Mysteries of the Cross. People often picture the Five Decade Rosary when thinking about rosaries, but there are several types that Catholics use to pray on.
-
Five Decade Rosary
-
This rosary has five sets of 10 beads on it, with one extra bead in the middle of each set of 10 and some extra beads at the end for saying Our Father, Glory Be, three Hail Marys and the Apostles' Creed. The Five Decade rosary is the rosary that many Catholics commonly use in their daily meditations. Each set of 10 beads represents 10 Hail Marys, and the bead in the middle represents an Our Father.
Single Decade Rosary
-
The Single Decade Rosary has one strand of 10 beads on it to say the 10 Hail Marys. The person using the Single Decade rosary will use the same 10 beads for all five sets of 10 Hail Marys. The Single Decade rosary also includes a cross and five beads at the beginning so the user can say Our Father, three Hail Marys and a Glory Be.

Wedding Rosary
-
The Wedding Rosary is a symbol of a Catholic couple uniting in the holy sacrament of marriage. There are two strands of beads on this rosary, and each strand has five sets of 10 beads for the couple to say Hail Marys on, with a bead representing Our Father between each strand. Couples who say the rosary together sometimes use this rosary.
Rosary Bracelets and Rings
-
Rosary bracelets also include one decade of 10 Hail Marys. They are designed so a person can easily slip the bracelet around her wrist and carry a rosary on her person. These bracelets include one bead to symbolize an Our Father, plus a miraculous medal and a small, charm-sized crucifix or cross hung together, instead of a dangling crucifix. Rosary rings can be worn around a finger or placed in a wallet. The rings have 10 bumps along with a cross on it to help keep a person's place while praying.
