Ideas for a Superhero Party
If donning a cape and fighting the forces of evil are favorite pastimes for your child, a superhero party is sure to be a hit. While the task may seem daunting, with a little creativity and imagination, pulling it all together can be easy and a lot of fun, even for those of us who aren't able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations
-
Set the tone for your festivities with superhero-themed party invitations. Buy preprinted Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman or other superhero invitations online or at a party supply store. Or, get creative and make your own. Use a photo of your child decked out in full superhero regalia or comic strip clips, or draw a comic motif yourself. If you want guests to show up in costume, indicate that on the invitations.
Decorations
-
Purchase themed plates, napkins, balloons and other items emblazoned with images of favorite superheroes. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to rely on store-bought decorations or that you can't add to them. Your color palette should mirror superhero comics, which typically means bold punches of red, blue, black and yellow. Choose balloons, streamers and serving ware in these colors. Hang posters or computer-printed images of favorite superheroes on the walls, interspersed with some "BAM!", "POW!" and "BOOM!" motifs.

Cake
-
For an easy yet impressive cake, ice with one of your theme colors, and then position miniature action figures on top. More advanced cake designers might try doing a cake in the shape of a favorite logo, such as the "S" emblem on Superman's cape. Or make cupcake toppers by printing superhero images or emblems, no larger than 1 1/2 inches or so in width and height, and securing them to toothpicks.
Activities
-
Superheroes tend to be an active group, so you'll want to have some activities planned to keep them entertained. If you've asked your guests to show up in costume, there's a good chance some role-playing will ensue. If not, a great activity might be to decorate masks and capes with fabric markers, puff paint, glitter, appliques and other art supplies (as a bonus, these hand-crafted items double as party favors). Put their superhero powers to the test with an obstacle course, races or bean bag toss to knock out cardboard villains. Then settle things back down by reading a superhero story or offering crayons and coloring pages.
Party Favors
-
Goody bags not only provide a little something to thank guests for coming, but they usually are doled out as parting gifts, so they also signal when the party has ended, helping well-worn hosts wrap things up. Buy a variety of superhero-themed goodies at a party store. Mini comic books, stickers, power rings and temporary tattoos are likely to go over well with the superhero crowd.
