Mother's Day Gift for an In-Law
Mother's Day is a holiday to celebrate all the maternal influences in our lives, including our mother-in-laws. Whether you are close to her, or live at a distance, there are plenty of gift ideas to let her know you are thinking of her. Though mother-in-laws often are the brunt of jokes, they play a very important role in our lives. Take time to celebrate her. Mother-in-laws also have their own special day, celebrated the fourth Sunday of each October.

Brag-Book Gifts
-
Photo albums make a wonderful present no matter what the occasion is. Moms love pictures of their children, and grandmas love pictures of their grandchildren even more. Give your mother-in-law a nice set of photographs in a photo album showcasing her favorite people: your spouse, yourself and the children if there are any. Incorporate photos that have her in them too if possible, or take some pictures the day you give it to her and leave blank areas in the photo album for them to be added later.
Photo collages are also a fun and creative idea, or a nice framed photograph for a simpler style.
Photo presents do not have to be limited to traditional frames or albums. You can place favorite photos on practically anything these days. Coffee mugs, calendars, mouse-pads, t-shirts, canvas shopping bags, stickers, and key chains are just a few more ideas that can be enhanced with personalized photos.
For a fun and funky present, try a canvas style wall art that puts an artistic spin on your photograph. This makes a truly unique and memorable gift.
Sweet Surprises
-
Flowers are a wonderful gift to receive unexpectedly. Surprising your mother-in-law on her special day is a wonderful way of saying I love you. Send her flowers, a candy-gram, a balloon bouquet, a fruit or cookie bouquet, or a simple, thoughtful card.

Go Big
-
A hot air balloon ride is a big gesture to show your love and appreciation for your spouse's mom. If you are exceptionally close to your mother-in-law and have the means to do so, go big! Hot air balloon rides, a day at the spa, a beautiful retreat into the mountains or to the ocean, a shopping spree complete with lunch and spa treatments are a fabulous and relaxing way to celebrate the day. If there are many miles between your family and her home make a surprise visit.
Go Small
-
Spending time as a family strengthens bonds and shows you care. Going all out is not necessary to show your appreciation for your mother-in-law. Some simple, yet loving gestures could be a picnic lunch at a local park, an afternoon spent together having tea and talking, an offer to help her with garden chores, shopping or some other task that would lighten her load. Often parents with grown children simply want more time with their loved ones, and that is a free gift to give.
Come from the Heart
-
Gifts that come from the heart are better received than ones that feel forced or fake. Whatever gift option you choose, be sure it comes from the heart. Your mother-in-law knows you and will appreciate something that is genuine in feeling rather than an attempt to go over the top, unless, of course, that is your style.
Keep it simple and in tune with how your relationship truly is. A gift from the heart can help bring you closer together, or solidify the bond you already share.
