Internet Teaching Projects for the Classroom
The Internet has an amazing number of teaching projects for your classroom. These projects span every subject area including science, math and social studies. Many of these website projects have been created for third-grade through fifth-grade students as a part of the educational programs for zoos, aquariums and universities. Online projects have also been created for students by large government websites like NASA.

Weather Webquest -- Tornadoes, Tornadoes, All Around

A webquest is an online scavenger hunt; your class will be working in teams of four for the tornado webquest. The teams will first read the webquest "Introduction" section to learn the reason for the scientific mission. The students will next read about the team's group "Task" then the "Process" to give them the team individual duties as the Meteorologist, the Storm Chaser, the Cartographer (map expert) and the Weather Journalist.
When your students have completed the research the students will write a four paragraph essay for a report. Every paragraph should have three or more detailed sentences about tornadoes. For the webquest "Conclusion" your students will take a virtual tornado field trip to learn about what the students might see as tornado chasers. The "Teachers" section of this webquest will also give you resources, a rubric and science standards.
Scholastic Cyberhunt -- Statue of Liberty

The Scholastic Magazine cyberhunt will help your students research weblinks and find out information about the Statue of Liberty. For this cyberhunt your students will read questions about the Statue of Liberty. The students will then follow links to websites such as PBS, American Parks and Enchanted Learning to research the articles there and find the answers to their questions. The cyberhunt will help them find out things like the country the Statue of Liberty came from, the author of the poem for the statute and the size of her hands and feet.

NASA Interactive Module -- Flight Training

The educational website for NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration will help your students learn about outer space and manned and unmanned spacecraft. In NASA's Space Operations Learning Center website the students will read articles, watch clips and participate in interactive educational games.
Your students can first go to the "Flight Training" link to learn how present day astronomers, gather information about planets and the earth using satellites and spacecraft. They will next go to the "Flight License" link to take a quiz on what the students have learned and get a license. Finally the students will go to the "Fly it Module" to answer questions and participate in interactive games that will help the astronauts have a perfect flight.
Monterey Bay Aquarium Interactive -- Life in the Deep

The "Life in the Deep" interactive website created by Monterey Bay Aquarium will help your students learn about the undersea world of Monterey Bay Canyon and the animals and habitats that can be found there. Using interactive tools and colorful video clips your students will first learn about the canyon wall habitat and the animals that live there including mushroom coral, squat lobster and sea fans. They will next visit the midwater habitat and see angler fish, gulper eels and the ferocious looking fangtooths. The students will finally visit the seafloor where they will find catsharks, pom pom anemones and sea cucumbers.
