Nurse Graduate Gifts
There are many ways to become a nurse. Two examples are to attend community college for two years or a university for four years. No matter what route a nursing student takes, celebrate her success by giving gifts that can run the gamut of being sentimental, practical or humorous.

Practical Gifts
-
Customize a first aid kit to help a nurse be prepared for anything. Nurses always have to be prepared for emergencies. Help them be at the ready with a homemade first aid kit. Include basic items such as wet wipes, adhesive bandages, thermometer, antiseptic soap, aspirin and motion sickness tablets. Customize the kit for medical professionals by adding in a CPR face shield, plastic gloves, sharp scissors, gauze roll bandages, tape, tweezers, alcohol cleansing wipes, and cotton balls and swabs. Extras can include a flashlight with extra batteries and a card that lists all local emergency numbers, such as those for poison control or specific, nearby hospitals.
Sentimental Gifts
-
A nurse's charm bracelet can include a caduceus. Give sentimental gifts to remind a nurse that he's appreciated. There are numerous nurse prayers and poems that can be found online. Many refer to the daily strength that nurses need to heal their patients. Consider engraving such words on a pendent or a plaque. For women, give a charm bracelet with medical-themed charms. Some ideas are hearts engraved with words such as "caring" and "compassionate", a red cross symbol and a caduceus, the universal symbol of medicine. Another option is to give the grad an IOU with a promise to take them someplace special during National Nurses Week that occurs annually from May 6th to May 12th, overlapping with Florence Nightingale's birthday.

Personalized Gifts

When creating a nurse's scrapbook, include quotes by nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale. Gather pictures of the nurse while they were going through their schooling. Putting the pictures in chronological order, add scrapbook stickers such as thermometers, stethoscopes, medical charts and shots. Intersperse the images with inspirational nursing quotes. Quote examples include the anonymous quote, "Nurses are angels in comfortable shoes" and Florence Nightingale's declaration that states, "I attribute my success to this -- I never gave or took any excuse."
Gag Gifts
-
One gag gift idea is to fill a box with chocolate bars and label it "Emergency Stash." Medical gag gifts can be found in local party stores as well as on the internet. Fill a carrying tote that a nurse can use on the job with such items as stuffed animals that are shaped like diseases such as the plague, mad cow disease and bird flu. There are also Jello mold trays in the shape of hearts and pens that look like shots. Add DIY touches by taking an empty giant jam bottle and filling it with aspirin or filling a box with chocolates and labeling it "Emergency Stash." Include games such as "Operation" and plastic toy doctor kits that are made for kids.
TLC Gifts
-
To help a nurse take care of therself, put a spa-style gift set together that includes slippers. Nurses spend most of their working hours on their feet. Give the new graduate a gift that reminds them to take care of themselves. Put together a gift package that includes fuzzy slippers, lavender-scented candles and bath salts. Toss in candles, packages of chamomile tea, a bottle of wine and a spa gift certificate.
