In a Tree
-
Hang small plastic skeletons or skulls from tree branches. Use all-white decorations or a variety of colors to create the look you wish. Additionally, consider some glow-in-the-dark skeletons for an eerie look in the dark. If your tree is quite large, consider hanging skull-shaped trick-or-treat buckets from the branches or a life-sized skeleton by the neck from a branch. Perch a medium or large skeleton on a tree branch.
Don't forget to decorate the tree's trunk as well. Make a ring of life-sized skeletons around a large tree trunk. Attach each skeleton to the trunk with wire or rope rather than nails, and tie the skeletons' hands with twine so that they look like they are holding hands around the tree. Choose a tree that is close to your door or sidewalk so that party-goers or trick-or-treaters have to walk by the skeletons.
In a Graveyard
-
Create a Halloween graveyard scene in your yard by placing a few inexpensive gravestone decorations in a line, similar to a cemetery. In front of the graves, arrange some skeleton hands, feet or skulls to look as if they are emerging from the ground. Arrange several skeletons in sitting positions or leaning on gravestones. Place a skeleton inside a cardboard or plastic box, and position it either lying down or to look like it is climbing out of the box. Push some dowel sticks or metal rods into the ground rather close together and in the area of some gravestones, and use twine to tie a skeleton to each rod. Arrange the skeletons with their arms up to scare onlookers.

Door Greeter
-
Position a life-sized skeleton near your door. Stick lollipops into its ribs and hands or have it hold a basket of treats so that guests will have to come close to their "host" to get a treat. Alternatively, arrange a skeleton so that his hand is facing outward. Place a sign near him to tell guests, "Welcome. Can I give you a hand?" Seat a skeleton on a bench in a casual position. For added effect, play eerie sounds on a CD player placed near one or a group of skeletons.
Accidents
-
Create some humorous positions with your faux skeletons. Have one or more hanging by one hand from a gutter or roof edge. Fasten a skeleton to look as though it crashed into a door, corner of a house or a tree trunk. Create a pile of bones and place a skull on top, perhaps with two hands holding the head. Put a sign next to the bones that reads, "I just can't keep myself together today." Attach a skeleton hand near the mouth of a dog statue.
