Celebrate this Valentine's Day by creating your own homemade gift for that special person in your life. Sure, you could go to the mall and buy an elaborate bouquet or box of candy, but instead make your gift more personal and long-lasting by making something that truly shows the love and appreciation you have for your mate. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Card
-
Design your own card. Fold pink card stock in half and stamp tiny red hearts on the front or cut hearts from white lace and glue them to the front. Copy a romantic sonnet from a book or use lyrics from a song your lover likes and glue them to the inside of the card. Or, glue the bottom half of a large red valentine inside the card so that it pops up when the card is opened with the message, "Be Mine" on it. Insert a bookmark inside the card made from a pink-and-red paint strip with the letters "X-O-X" inside the three color swatches or place your initials in one color, his in the last color and a heart in the middle.
Flower Vase
-
Give the gift of flowers by making a recyclable plastic container into a unique vase. Paint the container a bright, vivid red or soft pastel pink. Tape a stencil to it, once it dries, and outline hearts in black before filling with white. Fold colored tissue paper lengthwise into an accordion, then fold it in half and wrap a pipe cleaner around it. Stick a bamboo skewer into the center of the tissue paper and open up the tissue paper to form a flower. Create enough flowers to make a full bouquet, then place them inside the vase.

Sweets
-
Bake your way into his heart with a dozen heart-shaped sugar cookies covered with pink icing or sprinkled with red heart candy shapes. Dip strawberries into melted dark chocolate and then sprinkle melted vanilla chocolate over them. Arrange them on a heart-shaped plate for the two of you. Make chocolate truffles covered in nuts and place them into an empty egg carton with a message on the top, such as "Happy Valentine's Day" or "I Love You." Bake a heart-shaped cake with red icing and add tiny heart-shaped message candy around the perimeter for decoration.
Heart Basket
-
Pick up a heart-shaped wicker basket and spray paint it red or pink. Apply a clear waterproof sealer to the basket and then line it with a plastic bag cut to size. Poke several drainage holes in the bag. Fill the basket with potting soil, then plant live budding flowers in it. Choose flowers that are red or pink. Place the flowers close together in the heart shape. Add a card with instructions for plant care.
