Renaissance Fair Jobs
When warmer weather approaches, many people anticipate their local renaissance fair. Good food, unusual entertainment and flagons of ale await patrons of such festivals, but others may want to get more involved in the show. Keep in mind that many renaissance fairs do not offer payment for certain jobs; being involved in a festival may only present an experience rather than provide monetary gain. Contact your local renaissance fair to find jobs available; if your skills or wares lie in the unusual, there just may be a place for you in the king's court.

Actors and Actresses
-
When most people think of renaissance fairs, they imagine armored knights jousting for their cause, peasants roaming the grounds while speaking slurred old English and the stately king and queen leading a procession of their court members down the main street. Renaissance fairs generally begin accepting applications for these role-playing thespians many months before the actual event. Most fairs provide training classes to teach language, mannerisms and interaction techniques befitting each specific role. Period costumes may be provided, but some fairs require you to assemble your own outfit.
Performers
-
Renaissance fair-goers are treated to a wide variety of stage shows, impromptu performances and general merry-making. Almost every type of artist has a place at a renaissance fair; musicians, magicians, dancers and even fire-breathers add to the ambiance of the occasion. Contact the entertainment board of your local festival if you wish to participate. Many performers choose to travel to multiple renaissance fairs to show off their craft; this is not necessary, but many acts you see at the fair are on tour just like a rock band (groupies may or may not be included.)

Concession
-
Concession jobs abound at renaissance fairs. Most fairs offer a food court where you can find anything from deep-fried turkey legs to succulent pastries from a local bakery. Renting out a booth in the food district can expose your culinary expertise to a wide variety of festival-goers (keep in mind that state-enforced food regulations apply.) On the other end of the spectrum are the arts and crafts vendors. There is a need at every fair for handmade goods and services, such as jewelry, leather and metal crafts, custom perfumes and henna tattooing. Psychics and tarot readings are often big hits at renaissance fairs. Most fairs charge a fee for renting out an area on the grounds to set up shop.
Behind the Scenes Staff
-
Every fair requires a group of skilled workers that allow the festivities to go on without a hitch. Event organizers, accountants, promoters, and lawyers all are a necessity for planning and running a renaissance fair. Ticket sales are important in the fair business, as is having a group of experts to aid in electrical and medical emergencies. If you run a business that may suit the needs of a renaissance fair, contact the people in charge of the festival to see if you can provide services during the event.
