Cool Gift Wrap Ideas
From bright colored paper to satiny ribbon, wrapping gifts is almost as important as the gift itself. However, there is a standard means of placing paper over a box, wrapping it tightly, and adding a bow. To do something different and unusual, break out of this standard and do a variety of gift wrapping techniques, directed towards whoever you are presenting the gift to. From handmade boxes, to newspaper, to cloth, paper does not need to always dominate gift wrapping.

Eco-friendly
-
With the cultural lean towards being eco-conscious, environmentally friendly wrapping is the perfect way to show the tree-hugger in your life that you care. Repurpose papers for this kind of wrapping -- recycle brown grocery bags, use an interesting newspaper that is unexpected, such as the Chinese daily, or old vintage maps for the individual who loves to travel. Wrap the packages as you normally would, adding touches of color and flair with the ribbon and cards attached.
Natural
-
There are a variety of gift wraps around us, however, we just do not realize it. From leaves to bark, nature can provide a variety of gift wraps, all that give an earthy tilt to a given item. Use banana or bamboo leaves, layered, for large gifts. Bark can also be used, provided it is thin. Birch bark is perfect for this, as it is thin and its silvery and white surface add an elegant tint to the wrapping. Use twine or small leaves to hold the package in place, and found ornaments, such as birds' feathers or even star anise, to decorate them.

Towels
-
For the gift directed towards the bathroom, from soaps to bath salts, using towels to wrap up presents is not only inventive and cool, but practical as well. Place the gift in the center, fold the towel as you would if using paper, and wrap with twine or a ribbon. Dish towels can be used for wrapping kitchen utensils as well, providing an extra element to the gift itself. Theme the towels with the color of the present itself.
Origami
-
To lend both a classical and clean looking tilt to gifts, wrap them in an origami fashion, with simple lines and handmade gift tags. Envelopes themselves can also be shaped in an origami fashion, from a heart to a square. Place the gift inside a large or small origami box, dependent on its size. Complete it with a simple-looking ribbon, with minimalistic designs on it. Add an origami envelope or card in the same color.
