Couple Photo Shoot Ideas
Whether you are shooting photos for an engagement announcement or simply to capture a couple's love on film for no particular occasion, prepare an ample selection. Incorporate a variety of locations, poses and interesting or meaningful props to produce memorable photos the couple will cherish for a lifetime.
-
Studio Poses
-
In a controlled environment with familiar backgrounds and lighting, you have a good chance of producing a professional-quality keepsake photo. Choose from a number of effective poses when photographing the couple. One example of a standard pose is the female sitting on a chair with the male standing behind her; the male can put his hand on the female's shoulder. This type of pose and others like it work well for couples interested in a traditional feel to their photos.
Outdoor Poses
-
Natural sunlight, especially at dusk, can create amazing photos with rich colors and wonderful shadows. Encourage the couple to pose for at least a few of their photos outdoors. The location will dictate the types of poses to use. For example, if taking photos near a particularly attractive staircase, have the couple stand on alternating steps or experiment with more creative poses on the stairs. Choose various outdoor locations such as a marina, a historic building or a local landmark.

Props
-
Ask the couple if they are interested in using props for any of their photos, regardless of whether the shoot is indoors or out. When using props, find something meaningful for the couple. If a couple met online, for instance, pose them standing near a computer. If a couple shares a love for skiing, ask them to dress in snow gear for some of the photos. Take a trip to the mountains or do a studio picture with a stock background.
Candid Photos
-
Some of the very best photos come between the posed shots. Be prepared with your camera to capture the moments when your subjects aren't really posing. A stolen kiss and reassuring smile or quick embrace can result in the most natural and cherished photos. Even if you are unable to catch truly candid photos, ask your couple to "stage" a photo that would typically be considered candid. Ask the couple to kiss or hold hands, for example, and focus the camera on just their lips or hands. Candid shots are sometimes the most meaningful pictures to come from a photo shoot.
