What Type of Ink Does a Canon MX700 Use?
The Canon PIXMA MX700 is a multi-functional color printer. Canon designed the printer to connect to either a computer running Windows or a Mac computer. Not only can the MX700 serve as a color printer, it also has an internal fax board with the ability to store up to 100 commonly used fax numbers. The Canon MX700 printer uses a four-color technique to print color images that uses four separate color ink cartridges, as a well as a separate black cartridge. The printer blends together different amounts of ink from each color cartridge to reproduce the color of the images you wish to print.

Black Ink
-
The main use of most printers is to print black and white text documents. Canon designed the MX700 with separate ink cartridges, including a separate black cartridge, to produce the highest quality of print image possible. The black ink cartridge, model number PGI-5, has a rated page yield of 650 pages. When printing black text, the printer only uses the black ink cartridge as opposed to the process employed by several other color printers that use a combination of all the installed ink to create "process black" images or text. Using solely black ink makes the MX700's output much darker and with better image fill than the output of printers using process black.
Magenta Ink
-
With a page yield of 280 pages, the printer uses magenta ink, model number CLI-8M, whenever the print job is in color. The magenta ink mixes with the other inks to closely match the color of the color image you with to print. Magenta is reddish in color and mixes with the other inks to add more red to your prints or to diminish the intensity of other colors.
-
Cyan Ink
-
Cyan ink, model number CLI-8C, is blue in color and the printer uses it when printing all color images. The more blue that a printout contains, the more cyan ink the printer will use. As with all the other color ink cartridges used in the MX700, the estimated page yield is 280, based on a 5 percent coverage per page.
Yellow Ink
-
The last of the four inks used in the MX700 is model number CLI-8Y. This yellow ink cartridge has an estimated page yield of 280 pages and is bright yellow in appearance. Yellow ink is the ink the printer uses the most when you print color images and the yellow cartridge will most likely need more frequent replacement than will the cyan and magenta ink cartridges. This is because the printer uses yellow ink not only to increase the amount of yellow in a print, but also to reduce the intensities of the other ink colors.
