The Difference Between QuickBooks 2006 & 2010
Intuit releases new versions of its business accounting software program QuickBooks almost every year. Many businesses decide to wait for one or more versions between upgrades to save money or because there are not enough compelling new features to warrant the expense. Perhaps you are one of those business owners. You may have QuickBooks 2006 and are wondering what the differences are between your version and QuickBooks 2010, which Intuit released in October 2009.

Document Management
-
QuickBooks 2010 provides the ability to attach documents to any vendor, account, employee or transaction through Intuit's online storage. The documents are stored securely, and you can access them from anywhere. You can also share them with your accountant or other employees. You cannot do any of this in QuickBooks 2006.
E-mail Marketing
-
You can access 25 applications from within QuickBooks 2010, including an integrated email marketing service. The Marketing Center offers customizable templates for you to create marketing campaigns linked to your QuickBooks customer data. You can then track the results of your campaign within QuickBooks. QuickBooks 2006 does not include any add-on applications.

Initial Setup
-
In QuickBooks 2006, it takes 15 screens to set up your company and you have to enter all information manually. QuickBooks 2010, however, streamlines the process to six screens for small businesses. You will be presented with a series of spreadsheet-like screens for entering multiple items such as lists of products, customers and vendors. You can copy and paste those lists from Excel into QuickBooks 2010, saving you time and decreasing the chance for errors.
Company Snapshot
-
Intuit introduced the Company Snapshot in QuickBooks 2009 and improved it further in 2010. You can now personalize the Company Snapshot so it displays the data most relevant to your business. You can choose from several reports that will change instantly as your data changes. There are new reports for yearly expenses and income comparisons, as well as detailed expense and income breakdowns or your top customer list.
Improved Reports and Forms
-
Reports are an important part of any accounting software program. QuickBooks 2006 has good reports, but QuickBooks 2010 has more than 100 customizable reports. Intuit has also included a favorites list so you can find the reports you need more quickly. Forms have also been improved in 2010 with the ability to design forms including backgrounds, fonts and colors. The design is applied to all of your forms and if you change the design, it is propagated to all of your forms.
