Can People Add Themselves to Twitter Lists?
Twitter is a social media tool that allows users to post short text updates, links and other content, called "tweets," in 140 characters or less. Users can follow other Twitter accounts and read all the tweets from the accounts they follow in chronological order from the Twitter homepage, called a "timeline." Many Twitter users follow hundreds, even thousands of accounts, which can easily become overwhelming to read. To help your Twitter timeline and tweet-reading organized and under control, Twitter created a feature called "Lists."

Definition
-
A Twitter list is a list of Twitter accounts grouped together under an associated subheading or group category. For example, if you have many co-workers on Twitter, you can create a "Co-Workers" list and add all their Twitter accounts to the list. This creates a custom online reading list of all the Twitter accounts on the list you've created.
How Twitter Lists Work
-
A Twitter list allows you to read all the tweets just from the Twitter accounts on the list in chronological order. In a sense, it creates a custom timeline with just the users on the list, instead of displaying all the tweets from all of the accounts you follow on Twitter. Since you follow the list itself as a sort of meta-Twitter, you don't have to follow the individual Twitter accounts on the list to read what they post. This is helpful if you'd like to regularly read the tweets of certain groups of people without adding them to your followed Twitter accounts and seeing them each time you log in to Twitter. When you click on the name of the list on your Twitter profile, you'll be able to see all their tweets at once. Additionally, Twitter users can follow other users' lists.

Adding Yourself
-
If you've created a Twitter list, you can add your own Twitter account to the list. While logged in to your Twitter account, visit your profile by clicking "Profile" in the top menu. Click on the "Lists" icon just under your bio in the right column, in the same gray box as the "Edit Your Profile" link. You'll see a drop-down menu with all the lists you've created. Check the boxes next to the lists to which you'd like to add yourself. The addition is instantaneous.
Adding Yourself to Other Lists
-
Twitter users who create lists manage and own them exclusively. You can't share ownership of Twitter lists with another user, and you can't make any changes to anyone else's Twitter lists. This means that you can't add anyone to another Twitter user's Twitter list -- including your own Twitter account.
