Cosmopolitans are a trendy vodka drink.

Vodka is a versatile liquor that pairs well with countless mixers. On its own ,vodka has virtually no discernible taste, beyond the stinging bite of alcohol. This allows it to be complemented by any flavor with which it is paired, without overpowering the drink. Vodka's smooth taste and adaptability have made it the star of the show in several, classic cocktails. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Martinis

    • The vodka martini has become a beloved drink due to vodka's versatility. Odorless and understated, it enhances the other ingredients in the martini. Olives have long been a favored garnish in a martini and a dirty martini is made from mixing in olive juice to taste. A vodka dirty martini allows the olive juice to be front and center without having to compete with an alcohol like gin. Flavored vodka martinis became all the rage during the early 2000s, including apple martinis made with vodka and apple pucker and lemon drop martinis made with citron vodka and lemon zest.

    Mixed Drinks

    • Vodka pairs well with basic mixers, such as tonic or soda. Juices are used to make a simple vodka cocktail, such as vodka and cranberry juice or vodka and orange juice, also known to many as a screwdriver. A Bloody Mary is a well-known mixed drink that is traditionally made with vodka, tomato juice, spicy extras, such as Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce and veggies, such as celery, pickles or olives. The Cosmopolitan is another beloved vodka drink, made by mixing vodka with lime juice, cranberry juice and Cointreau, an orange-flavored liqueur.

    Flavored Vodkas

    • Perhaps in response to the Cosmopolitan and flavored martini craze that began in the 2000s, designer and flavored vodkas have been created in nearly every flavor imaginable. Basic fruits were first, with flavors like lemon, lime and apple being infused directly into vodka to give the fruity cocktails an extra kick of flavor. More exotic fruits were used next, like mango, passion berry and pomegranate. Other flavors then began being added into vodka and now nearly any flavor desired is available, such as vanilla, cinnamon, coconut, mint, coffee and even whipped cream flavor.

    Vodka Shots

    • Some of the most ordered shots contain vodka. The lemon drop is a simple, beloved shot consisting of vodka with sugar around the rim of the glass and a squeeze of lemon to suck on after drinking the shot. A Kamikaze is a delicious, fruity shot made up of vodka, orange liqueur and a splash of lime juice. Coffee lovers will enjoy the B-52 which is made with vodka, coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur. Jello shots can make any party fun, vodka is poured into the mixture before it sets. The end result is vodka-infused Jello cups.
