Braids that Only Take Up to 2 Hours to Do

Braids that Only Take Up to 2 Hours to Do thumbnail
A twisted French braid looks elegant and is easy to create.

Braided hairstyles are an easy way to keep hair neat and stylish. Their one drawback is that the smallest types of braids, called micro braids, can take many hours to do. Some complicated styles could even take all day. If you haven't got that much time to spare, however, there are several easy braid styles. They look elegant and could also be perfect for children. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Classic French Braid

    • A French braid is a fast style that can be worn everyday.

A French braid is one of the most basic types of braids that every girl should learn. However, it will take practice to master the technique. Depending on your hair length and experience level, this braid can take as little as 15 minutes or up to 35 minutes to complete. Created by twisting sections of hair into a braid at varying intervals, a French braid can incorporate all the shorter or flyaway strands of hair on the top and sides of your head, so it is a perfect style for layered cuts. Once you master the technique, you'll love to wear a French braid everyday.

A Dutch Braid & Cornrow Headband

    • Cornrows, such as these done sideways near the hairline to resemble a headband, are thinner versions of Dutch braids.

Once you know how to do a French braid, a Dutch braid and cornrows will be easy. With a Dutch braid, you are braiding the side sections of hair underneath the middle section instead of on top as with the French style. This means that, instead of crossing over, the hair is crossed under. This positions the braid almost on top of the head, giving it a much different look.

Cornrows are thinner versions of Dutch braids. For an easy cornrow style, create one or several small Dutch braids sideways across the top of your head horizontally; they will resemble a headband. Allow the rest of your hair to flow naturally or pull it into a ponytail. This style is perfect for medium-length hair.

    Large, Elegant Braids

    • A side braid "halo" is an elegant style.
A side braid "halo" is an elegant style.

Large braids, made in the traditional way with three sections of hair, are simple and fast to create. Depending on their placement, they can look elegant. Often seen on celebrities, large braids can be worn on one side of the head, on top or positioned right at the hairline, stretching around the head like a halo. Actress Jada Pinkett Smith was seen wearing a large "halo" braid near her hairline in June 2010 while tween actress Elle Fanning wore a large braid on top of her head to the Hollywood premiere of Focus Features' "Somewhere," in December 2010. If your hair isn't long enough to create a long, large braid, try pinning on a faux braid. They're inexpensive, and it should be easy to find one that matches your hair color.

    The Fishtail

    • A fshtail braid will stay in place all day because the hair is pulled tightly into the braid.

The fishtail braid is another elegant look perfect for long hair. This style will take a little longer to finish than the French braid, so make sure you have about 40 minutes to style your hair. If you don't have that much time, pull your hair back into a ponytail before starting the braid. This style will still look elegant while cutting the time it will take to make in half. The fishtail braid is composed of small sections of hair that are pulled very tightly into a looped format, so it will stay in place all day. While it is elegant enough for a fancy party, it is also perfect for an active day of hiking or playing sports.
