Fifties Party Ideas for Adults
Host a '50s-themed adult party to remind the party-goers of their younger years or to introduce a younger generation of adults to an era they missed. Host the party at a rented banquet facility and decorate the party venue to look like a sock hop. Use the theme in every aspect of the party, from the invitations to the party favors, for a memorable birthday party, anniversary or other special event. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations
-
Purchase theme-related invitations for the event or make them at home for a unique party invitation. To make the invitations, cut a piece of black card stock into the shape of a record, with a hole cut out in the middle, and write the party details on one side. Alternatively, invest a little bit of money in the invitation idea and purchase reasonably priced vinyl records. Write the party details on one side using a bright glitter marker. Another option is to make poodle skirt invitations from card stock and fabric. Cut the skirt's shape from a piece of card stock and the same shape from a piece of fabric. Write the party details on the card stock and glue the top of the fabric skirt to the top of the card stock skirt. Lift up the skirt to see the party details.
Decorations
-
Find a banquet facility with a black-and-white checkerboard floor or look into renting a floor that can be put together at the location. Set up a large red-and-white balloon arch inside the entrance of the party venue. Decorate the walls with vinyl records, classic car posters or cutouts and posters of popular music and movie stars of the decade. Rent a jukebox to use as a centerpiece for the event. Cover the party tables with red-and-white gingham tablecloths and use 1950s-style sunglasses for napkin rings.

Activities
-
Hire a disc jockey for the party to keep the music playing and the guests entertained throughout the event. Disc jockeys can also help to get a reluctant crowd up on the dance floor. You can also hire a dance instructor to teach the group some '50s-style dance moves. Encourage the party guests to come dressed in '50s-style clothing and award prizes for the best dressed, the most authentic outfit and the wackiest costume. For an organized activity, consider having a song-recognition contest. Divide the group into two teams and play small excerpts of songs for the teams to guess the titles. The team that guesses the most correctly wins the game.
Favors
-
Have each guest take home a pair of '50s-style sunglasses, also used as napkin holders at the party. Other '50s-themed party favors include fuzzy dice, vinyl records, classic movies or television shows on DVD. To fill a party favor bag instead, include small classic car figurines, plastic cola glasses, '50s music mixed CDs and inflatable guitars. For a custom-made party favor, give each guest a cookie bouquet made with sugar cookies cut in poodle skirt and sunglasses shapes.
