Plastic Easter eggs can be used for a variety of preschool activities.

Plastic eggs come in a wide variety of colors and are commonly seen around the Easter holiday. These eggs are versatile and can be used for many Easter activities and crafts. Purchase a selection of plastic Easter eggs to use in the classroom with preschoolers, who will love both searching for them and exercising their imaginations and creativity in making crafts with them. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Easter Egg Bunny

    • Have your preschoolers use plastic eggs to create Easter bunnies. For children this young, it is best to provide bunny ears that have already been cut out from foam or construction paper; use white for the base of the ears with smaller pink ovals for the insides of the ears. Assist the preschoolers in gluing the bunny ears to the tops of the plastic eggs and then adding two white pompoms to represent the Easter bunny's cheeks. A small pink pompom can represent the nose and googly eyes will give the creations life. Be sure to glue the white pompoms high enough that the Easter egg can still be opened.

    Bejeweled Eggs

    • Have your preschoolers make bejeweled plastic Easter eggs to bring home to Mom and Dad. Provide each child with a plastic egg and set out craft glue and a variety of craft jewels, rhinestones, large beads, buttons and ribbon. For extra shimmer, spray paint the plastic eggs gold or silver the day before and allow them to dry overnight before beginning the activity. Have the preschoolers decorate bejewel their plastic eggs to make special Easter crafts. Don't worry about how neat or appealing the final result is, it's the fun that counts.

    Relay Race

    • A simple activity for preschoolers that can be done with plastic eggs is an Easter relay race. Divide the children up into teams and set up an easy relay course, such as several chairs the preschoolers must weave through and around. Each player must complete the relay course jumping, or hopping like the Easter bunny, while holding a plastic egg between his or her knees. The first team to have each player complete the relay is the winner. To avoid any conflict, provide each child with a small Easter treat at the end of the race.

    Egg Hunt

    • Plastic eggs can be used to put a different spin on the traditional Easter egg hunt. If you are looking to avoid the sugar and excess energy associated with candy, fill plastic eggs with small toys and items instead. Hide enough eggs around the classroom or a safe, enclosed outdoor area for each child to find an egg. The preschoolers will love the opportunity to do an Easter egg hunt at school and parents will appreciate the thoughtfulness of providing toys instead of candy and chocolates.
