A homemade Valentine's card gives a personal touch.

Valentine's Day is one of the most personal holidays that is celebrated, with the onus very much on you to find something for your partner that is not only romantic and sweet but also unique and personal. Making something yourself combines the best of all possible worlds, and giving your partner a personalized gift is far more memorable than something bought from a store.

  1. Glitter Hearts Card

    • Take a blank card and draw a heart on the front of it with a glue pen. Scattered colored glitter over the top of the card and shake off the excess. The glitter will stick to the glue and make the heart visible. Repeat the process with different colored glitter or, if you wish, the name of the person who is receiving the card.

    Fabric Card

    • Draw a heart on the front of your card and use a craft knife to carefully cut it out, leaving a heart-shaped hole. Measure the width and height of the heart and buy a square piece of cloth that is 1 inch shorter than the card. Use glue to stick the fabric to the inside front cover of the card. The fabric will show through the cut-out heart and complete the front cover of the card.

    Heart-Shaped Card

    • Draw a heart on a large piece of red card stock. Cut the heart out using a craft knife and write your message on the back of the heart. Cut two long rectangles, each 1/2 the length of the card, out of the remaining card stock. Stick one end of each of these rectangles to the bottom of the card and fold them upward to create feet to keep the card upright.

    Giant Card

    • Sketch the outline of a large heart onto red card stock or, if possible, Bristol board. Cut the heart shape out and draw glue small, glitter-covered paper hearts onto it. Write a message on the front using metallic ink gel pens or the glitter and glue method. If your Valentine has a favorite romantic quote, write that on the front of the card as well.
