Seaglass Projects

Seaglass earrings have a rich quality.

Sea glass is a beautiful commodity that reflects light, comes in many colors and is often free. Sea-glass projects make great environmentally friendly gifts, and many projects require few crafting skills. Sea glass can be used as filler for candle holders, fish bowls and decorative vases. For those who enjoy hands-on crafts, sea glass can be made into pendants, earrings, wreathes and wine glass rings.

  1. Wire Wrap Pendants

    • Make a decorative wire-wrapped pendant for a necklace. Use any shape, size or color of sea glass, and cut a long piece of craft wire with a pair of wire cutters. You can always make the wire shorter later, so be sure you have ample wire to work with. Fold the wire in half, leaving the halfway point well rounded. Grasp the halfway point with needle-nosed pliers, and twist to form a sturdy loop.

Place the sea glass on the wire, so the loop is at the top and back of the pendant. Clip one end of the wire at 2 inches with wire cutters. Wrap the other end of the wire around the middle of the glass, then bend it to the bottom. Measure out from the bottom two inches, and then clip the wire. Twist the two ends of the wire into individual spirals. Bring each spiral to the front of the glass, one on the top and one on the bottom, so they securely hug the glass in place.

    Earrings

    • To make sea-glass earrings, find two pieces of sea glass with a similar size, shape and color. If you have a craft drill, you can buy a #61 diamond drill bit, and make a hole in each piece of glass to thread the earring attachment. If you do this, partially submerge the glass in water to keep the glass from chipping or getting too hot.

It you do not have a drill, wrap the sea glass with a fine size craft wire, making a loop at the top. Then place the earring attachments onto the sea-glass with a pair of needle-nosed pliers.

    Wreathes

    • Make a small ornamental sea-glass wreath. If you have a craft drill and a #61 diamond drill bit, you can make a hole in each piece of sea-glass and thread fishing line through to wrap the glass around a circle-shaped piece of craft wire. If you do not have a drill, use a hot glue gun instead. Form a piece of craft wire or a wire coat hanger into a circle shape with needle-nosed pliers. Stitch a piece of transparent ribbon onto the circle, using enough single stitches to firmly secure the ribbon around the entire wire circle. Then use hot clue to attach the sea glass to the ribbon. Hang with a ribbon bow.

    Wine Glass Rings

    • Gather four pieces of sea glass of any shape or color. Drill a hole into each piece of sea glass. If you do not have a drill, wrap fine craft wire around the sea glass, forming a ring at the top to hang the glass. Place a small craft ring, used for jewelry-making, through each piece of glass, and close the ring with needle-nosed pliers. Wrap a piece of craft wire in a circle 1 inch in diameter with needle-nosed pliers, then wrap it again to make a double circle. Thread the glass on the circle like a key chain, and attach to the base of a wine glass.
