Careers in the stock market are great for individuals with an interest in finance. The stock market provides several different job opportunities including trading, investment banking and financial analysis. Most careers in the stock market require a college degree or experience in the financial industry, as these jobs call for a thorough understanding of economics and financial markets.

Investment Banker

  • Investment bankers help publicly traded and private companies organize finances. They assist their clients in selling stock to the public as well as suggest and execute strategies for merging with other companies. Investment bankers analyze markets and advise their clients on important financial decisions. A career in investment banking is time consuming but financially and personally rewarding for individuals who find the work interesting.

Trader

  • Traders are employed by banks, large companies and investing partnerships to buy and sell stock, bonds and currencies to make a profit. Traders are usually paid a salary along with a commission and bonuses based on sales. Traders' work hours vary, but at minimum include the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, when the stock market opens and closes. Trading is the most hectic and rowdy job in the stock market. A trader must listen to several brokers shouting prices at one time and be willing to take risks.

Stockbroker

  • Stockbrokers act as a liaison between individuals or corporations and the stock market. Only members of the stock exchange can make transactions, so stockbrokers invest for their clients. They may also provide investment advice to their clients.

Financial Analyst

  • A financial analyst gathers information about the economy, stock market and individual public companies and reports the information to his employer or clients. He provides insight into the market by following price fluctuations and stock patterns. Analysts advise clients on which deals to make and inform them of financial trends.
